If we ignore the unknown runner who broke the world record for a 5k road race by clocking a time of 8.23 then the winner of tonight's race was Sam McCutcheon. McCutcheoan navigated his way around the course in 16.17 for his first ever outing in the Tuesday night race.
Ben Twyman was second in 16.36 after sitting on McCutcheon's shoulder for most of the race.
The reasonable weather and light southerly would certainly have helped runners post better times than has been the case with the recent wild northerly winds in Wellington.
